Random play (empty playlist)

[ Back ] [ Reply ] [ Log On ]

Hi,

I noticed that when de random play option is selected, musiccenter repeats the last user-selected song over and over. I expect the program to start random play when the last song is finished.

In older forum messages someone mentioned that it would NOT happen in Party Mode, but it does...

Who knows how to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Marcel

Hi Marcel

If you have added one song to your playlist as an administrator or without party mode turned on, this song is played over and over again, delete all songs from your playlist and the DigitalCenter is playing randomly from all of your songs.

If you are in party mode, you have to login as the administrator before you delete all the songs, otherwise your deletion isn't saved.

Hope this fix your issue.

Great! this works! Thanks Rock!

The UI of this software is by far the best I've seen!

Is there a place for suggestions? EG Random Play settings (genres, decades etc.)

Thanks,

Marcel

To be honest this has been the #1 reason why I haven't bought this program yet. I didn't like that it kept repeating the last song over. It just seems counter intuitive as to how it should work. Why would anyone want the last song to repeat over and over. It makes more sense that when the last song plays and the playlist is empty that it should start picking songs at random again. I'll have to give the trial a go again trying it in party mode and see how that works. I really just want to be able to add songs when I want, then have it go back to picking songs at random after they have played. I really like the look of your software and will buy it if it works like I mentioned. All I really care about is the music side, and using the program as a jukebox.

@skiroy I agree that the current functionality isn't very thought. I cannot imagine anyone wanted it to work this way.

But....in Party mode everything works fine!

Now we need an option to define the random play. I don't want to hear Christmas Songs and Children songs at Random play.

We need to convince ZenPoint to add this!

Stiefel why don't you just make a theme which removes the Christmas and children songs? Then the DigitalCenter plays randomly songs only within this theme rules when it is selected.

Hi Rock,

I was thinking about trying it that way, but I suppose that the children albums won't be visible anymore in the music library.

Is that a wrong assumption?

Thx,

Marcel

The children albums are only hidden as long as your new theme is selected, when you deselect the theme all your albums are visible again.

I have a theme for adults one for Christmas and one for children songs, then I can switch between them anytime I want, and if I want to hear all my collection I just deselect the current theme.

What I really want is that all the music is visible and selectable.

But when no song is selected, I need to have influence on the random played songs

Is this a possibility for future releases?

Just log in as the administrator, add all the songs you want to be used as randomly selected songs. Log out again and in the future when no songs is added to the playlist your admin added songs are played randomly.

Hope this helped.

The repeating the last selected song is so frustrating in an otherwise great program, if Zen Point is designed to run as a jukebox why can't it have an option to go back to random songs once all selected songs were finished? It just seems really odd.

I know it works better in Party Mode but then you need to use passwords and you also can't access the admin or external programs. Seeing as one of those external programs is the shut down icon it just makes it all more complicated.

This would be a little annoying if it was my jukebox but I'm building one as a gift for an older person who's not great with computers and so instead of being able to just fire it up and let them us it as a jukebox I'll now have to explain how to go in and out of Party Mode (and why) and anything that makes it more complicated also makes it more likely that, either I get calls asking for help or even worse they decide it's all too hard and the jukebox doesn't get the use it should.

I suppose there's not much chance of this being fixed at this point?

I agree this is frustrating.  There is a lot of talk about this on the forum in multiple threads.  It seems like many people prefer not to use "party mode" so they can access other features.  Perhaps there should be a party mode without password protection option (seems silly though)?  Hopefully we'll see this addressed in a future release because clearly a lot of people are getting hung up on it.  Regardless, ZenPoint has the BEST interface I've seen for the "bar juke box" experience and to me this just a minor hiccup in an otherwise awesome product.

This is not a very graceful solution imo. If I have a bunch of songs in the playlist and they all finish playing, why should I have to do anything? The random selection start automatically or the program should just go silent until another selection is made. Considering this thread is over 10 years old, couldn't one expect that there would be a better solution by now?

I concur that a theme is the way to go here. I have created a number of themes using Genre information. For example, I have a Just The Hits theme which only grabs songs tagged as Vocal A, i.e., the hit or A side of a single. If a song that charted was culled from an album, it still gets this designation in my library. When I want to access everything, I use my Genre not Holiday theme. The nice thing about this method is you can get as specific as you like using multiple selection parameters. It would be nice if other fields were available for selection, but by thinking outside of the box a little, you can have Nice Things.
